DJED – SSA Challenger Tournament 1 2025

Yassin Shohdy underlined his potential as one of the most talented young players in squash, winning his fourth title in the last 10 months with victory at the DJED – SSA Challenger Tournament 1.

The livewire lefty – one of the PSA Challenger ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2025 – is still only 20 years of age, but went into this event as the No.1 seed, having won tournaments in Egypt, Hong Kong and Malaysian in 2024.

Back on home soil and heading up an all-Egyptian field, Shohdy dominated his first two opponents – Omar Bahgat and Ahmed Sherif – before coming through a tough, three-game battle with 18-year-old Taha Elshafei, with two of the three games going to tiebreaks.

He then went toe-to-toe with another left-hander in the final, second seed Seif Tamer, and it was the 6ft4 21-year-old who came out on top of a lengthy opening game, edging the tiebreak 15-13.

But from there, Shohdy took control, winning the next three games 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 to close out the win and clinch his fourth Tour title in just his fifth final.
