After his win yesterday at the Optasia Championships, Egypt’s Mostafa Asal has returned to World No.1 for the second time in his career, ending Ali Farag’s 95-week run at top of the world rankings.
The 23-year-old claimed the top spot back in 2023 and has been eager to return to the summit ever since he lost it to Diego Elias in May of that year. Asal has claimed four titles this season, winning the season opening Egyptian Open Diamond event on home soil, the Paris Squash 2024, the Hong Kong Open and now the Optasia Championships.
Asal and Farag’s next event will be the El Gouna International 2025 in which Farag will have the chance to snatch the spot straight back if certain scenarios happen.
Elsewhere in this week’s men’s rankings, German Open winner Victor Crouin has moved ahead of Youssef Ibrahim into 14th. Mohamad Zakaria is on the move in the top 30 as he rises No.25.
