“It’s not so much difficult being a father and a professional squash player, yes there are extra challenges, but on the psychological side, he brings so much joy to our lives so there is a sort of trade-off. I wouldn’t say it’s more difficult but it’s just a new experience that I’m enjoying.

“Thankfully I have Raneem by my side, she helps so much with Shahir, she makes it so easy for me for me to handle all the training and tournaments so she should take a lot of the credit.

“Of course, any tournament I enter I’m looking to win it, I’ll take it one match at a time, I won’t look too far ahead but certainly every match I play I’m looking to win it.”

Farida:
“I like the glass court more. It feels better and it’s better to play in front of people, too. I’m happy with today. It’s a bit different, but I really like it because I feel it’s a bit fast. Even when you try to slow down the pace, it’s still fast, so I really like these kind of courts.”

[6] Mazen Hesham 3-1 [WC] Gregory Gaultier (FRA)  12-14, 11-2, 11-3, 11-6 (41m)
[7] Gregoire Marche (FRA) 3-0 Karim El Hammamy  11-3, 11-9, 11-4 (37m)

Mazen
“Of course, playing Gregory is always tough. Even if he’s not been playing for a year now. It’s always tough and I have so much respect for him and I never meant anything other than just to play my shots, have fun and enjoy my time with him on court in front of these people.

“It’s my first time here, I like being here and it’s been a long season for me and for everybody. I’m happy I’m here and through and playing Gaultier in the last match of his career, probably. It’s a pleasure to be on the same court as him in that match.”

Omar

“I’m feeling good. It’s the end of season so I’m trying to push hard. But at the same time, I’m 34 years old, so I’m a bit old! But I’m really happy that I’m keeping going and I try to do my best and focus game by game, match by match and that’s what I’m doing for now.”

Karim

“I was surprised by how the court was dead at the start of the match, although I thought it would be quite bouncy but it was surprisingly dead. But as the match went on I adapted to this and glad I could make it and win.

“It’s the hottest court I’ve ever played in my life, hotter than Egypt and hotter than by the pyramids so it’s very humid and it’s so hard to play, I’m enjoying everything here. I love the court and I love the crowd.”
