After sitting outside the top 220 in the World Rankings – a recuring injury and studies troubled her progression – she is at her highest ever position of World No.13 thanks to three consistent seasons.

The young Egyptian, who only turned 24 in March, has been in and around for the world’s top 16 for the best part of a year now, but to get into the upper echelons, and join her compatriots Gohar, El Sherbini, El Tayeb, El Hammamy and others, Adel knows what she has to do.
“I believe I can push more up the rankings” she said. “I just need more consistency with my body and training and definitely gaining more experience of the matches I have played against the top 8 players because that shows how close you are to these top girls.
“Of course, I am very happy to reach my highest world ranking yet and it’s motivating to keep going forward to reach my goals.”
Adel has cemented herself as one of the better players in the game thanks to her level of consistency at the major tournaments. She reached the last 16 of all the major events in the shortened 2019/20 season, along with a quarter-final result at the China Squash Open to start the campaign.
“It was a great week of squash! It was the first tournament of the season and I was very excited to start competing again,” she explained. “Obviously reaching the quarter-finals in a big event is great and to be causing upsets and pushing top players just boosts confidence and motivates me even more.”
However, the young Egyptian is not happy with just reaching the last 16 of the major tournaments. She wants to be competing in the latter stages of the big events, and she knows what she has to do to achieve that.
“I keep working hard and making adjustments to my training and tactics on court,” Adel explained.
“I feel I have improved over the season. I feel stronger, which gave me more confidence on court as I think I am naturally attacking most of the time so I just need to always be fit since the game has been developing a lot and became a lot faster.
“I’ve been working hard with my coaches and I am just trusting the process and I am sure it will all pay off.”
